Dissemination of Best Practice to International Delegations
Since 1999 the BMW Regional Assembly has developed a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience in managing, delivering and complying with regulations governing the administration of EU funded programmes. As a consequence, the Assembly has been visited regularly by international delegations seeking to benefit from the Assembly’s application of ‘best practice’ procedures. Visiting delegations during the past ten years included representatives from: Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Sweden.
Study Visits
The Regional Assembly has taken part in seven study trips in the past ten years. On four occasions meetings were held in Brussels with various officials from the European Commission and members of the European Parliament. Meetings that took place in Brussels consecutively between 2004 an
d 2006 focused on the proposals for funding in the BMW Region post 2006. These meetings in parallel with the Natural Effects Declaration contributed to the BMW Region obtaining an Objective 2 ‘phasing in’ status for the 2007-2013 funding period. Study visits also took place in Finland, Poland and Sweden. These visits focused on sharing, comparing and learning best practice outcomes from various initiatives undertaken in the BMW Region and similar regions in these countries.
Graduate Treasure Trail
The BMW Regional Assembly has been one of the participating organisations in the Graduate Treasure Trail On-line Quiz. This initiative targets primary and secondary level students throughout Ireland. The purpose of the quiz is to promote research into European Union Affairs, the environment, government services, health and safety, politics and the Irish language as well as improving IT skills and promoting civic awareness. Each participating institution develops questions about their organisation which can be answered by the students logging onto the institution’s website and researching the correct answer. To qualify for prizes a student must answer all questions correctly.
Primary and Secondary School Visits
Over the past ten years the BMW Regional Assembly has facilitated visits from a number of primary and secondary schools in the Region giving them an insight into the activities of the Assembly. These visits have been hosted in the Assembly’s Chamber.
