Meeting of ADEP Partners 2005

Participation in Interreg Programmes - BMW Regional Assembly

The ADEP project involved working with regional participants in the implementation of various rural development and capacity building initiatives. This included the establishment of a high-level steering group of policy makers and food producers to oversee the Western Food Trail, a working partnership between the County Enterprise Boards in the Border Region, support for regional tourism in the Slieve Bloom area and the newly formed Slieve Bloom steering committee. The BMW Regional Assembly also played an active role in the organisation of the final seminar in Toulouse in June 2007.

The REGINA project aimed to create regions of excellence through the implementation of a common methodology for regional scientific, technological and innovation knowledge management. The project also aimed to influence the participation of Atlantic Regions in the European Research Area. One of the outcomes from this project was the signing of an Inter-Regional Scientific and Technological Co-operation Agreement between the BMW Regional Assembly, National University of Ireland Galway and the Advantage West Midlands and Coventry University Enterprises Ltd. This agreement was developed in the context of a programme of activities to promote regional science, technology and innovation knowledge management in the field of medical devices.

Countries of Partner Regions: Belgium, Finland, Greece, Malta, Macedonia, Spain and Wales
National Sub-Partners: Athlone Institute of Technology, Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology, Sligo


The aim of the project was to develop expertise at regional level in the use of Foresight techniques. The FUTURREG Project was designed to ensure that policies and regional development organisations were informed by futures tools and processes, including environmental scanning, trend analysis and scenarios. The purpose was to produce a toolkit that could be applied in other EU Regions. The sub-projects selected for support in the BMW Region were the Institutes of Technology in Athlone, Galway-Mayo and Sligo. The Final Conference of the FUTURREG Project entitled “Futures and Regions: Making Futures Work for Regional Development” was held in Sligo on the October 8th and 9th 2007.
