The BMW Regional Assembly has announced details of the upcoming Third Call for Proposals under the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme.*

Details of the call were set out at an Information Seminar for applicants held at the offices of the European Commission in Dublin yesterday. The event was attended by over sixty organisations across the island of Ireland which included Transport Providers, Higher Education Institutes, Local Authorities and the private sector. Those present were informed of a total funding package available of €23m under the next call for transnational project development in the areas of maritime safety, marine renewable energies, co-operation between public transport providers together with transport services provided through ports and by shipping companies. The call is set to open on February 14th with a closing date for applications of April 30th 2011.

Those attending were given details of the call timetable and the application process and tips on how to make a successful application. Information was also given by the Brussels based Irish Regions Office on various other funding opportunities outside the mainline structural funds which could provide additional funding opportunities to Irish Organisations to access EU funds. Opportunities for partnerships within the island of Ireland to co-operate with other European regions were also outlined in detail. The Assembly is confident that we will continue our successful participation in this programme which has generated €13m in approved expenditure to date across 35 projects covering 52 Irish partners.

The event was highly interactive with lively discussion from participants in a constructive Questions and Answers session.
