The BMW Regional Assembly together with the Special EU Programmes Body, hosted an Information Seminar on 04 March 2011 in Newry.

Description:

The event was held as part of the support offered by both organisations for applicants to the current call to the INTERREG IVC programme. INTERREG IVC is an interregional programme, specifically for local and regional authorities, which aims to improve the effectiveness of regional policies and instruments, by the exchange of experiences and the transfer of good practices between participating partners responsible for the development of local and regional policies.  The third call for INTERREG IVC is currently open and will close on 1 April 2011. 

 

 

The BMW Regional Assembly facilitated a workshop on Gender Equality in the offices of the Equality Authority in Dublin on the 17th February 2011.

Description:

The event which was attended by Government Bodies involved in the implementation of the Regional Operational Programmes was designed to improve reporting to the BMW OP Monitoring Committee under the Equality Principles. Along with an overview from the BMW Regional Assembly and presentation by Patrick O’Leary, Gender Equality Division, Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, interventions were made by the Equality Authority and the S&E Regional Assembly.

 

 

The BMW Regional Assembly has announced details of the upcoming Third Call for Proposals under the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme

Description:

The BMW Regional Assembly has announced details of the upcoming Third Call for Proposals under the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme. Details of the call were set out at an Information Seminar for applicants held at the offices of the European Commission in Dublin yesterday. The event was attended by over sixty organisations across the island of Ireland which included Transport Providers, Higher Education Institutes, Local Authorities and the private sector.

Councillor Joe Flanagan Chairman of the Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly presented students of Moate Community School at an awards presentation in the school on 17th December, with various prizes which they won for their participation in the Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly Online Quiz. The quiz which was run over four weeks encourages students to develop an understanding of the role and functions of the Assembly.

 

The BMW Regional Assembly hosted a very successful all island two day Financial Management workshop for Irish Partners participating in approved EU Interreg Atlantic Area Projects.

BMW Regional Assembly Marches in Brussels to Maintain EU Regional Development Funding

Description:

The campaign to ensure that Ireland will continue to receive Structural Funding into the future is taken to the streets of Europe’s capital.

With Ireland receiving the equivalent of €2 million per week in EU Structural Funding support throughout the 2007-2013 period, a decision on the future shape of EU Regional Policy from 2014 onwards will be of major national significance.

Regional Assembly Reviews Electricity Grid Upgrade Plans for Ireland

The Regional Assembly reviewed EirGrid’s plans to upgrade the national electricity transmission network at their meeting on 10th September. The meeting was addressed by Mr. Aidan Corcoran, Senior Transmission Manager with responsibility for the ‘Grid 25’ Programme, EirGrid’s grid development strategy.

BMW Regional Assembly Announces €17m allocation to Gateways and Hub Towns in the BMW Region

Description: The BMW Regional Assembly has announced the allocation of €17.1m under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to urban development and regeneration projects in the Gateways and Hub Towns in the BMW Region. These allocations will provide up to 60% of public investment costs in the selected urban projects, with the balance provided by the local authorities.

€17m BMW Region Gateway & Hub Development Fund Launched by the BMW Regional Assembly

Description: The BMW Regional Assembly will directly manage the allocation of a €17m EU funded capital grant assistance Fund available to the 5 Gateways and 5 Hub Towns in the BMW Region. Speaking from the Assembly’s headquarters in Ballaghaderreen Co. Roscommon, Mr. Gerry Finn Director of the BMW Regional Assembly, stated “this Fund which is allocated from an advance payment of the EU Structural Funds to Ireland, represents a continuation of the Assembly’s commitment to the development of the BMW Region’s Gateways and Hubs as designated under the National Spatial Strategy framework and prioritised in the BMW Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013. This Fund will seek to make a significant contribution to the economic, environmental, social and cultural development of these cities and towns in the BMW Region”.

Third-Level Institutional Research Agreement Major Boost to the BMW Region

Description: The Director of the BMW Regional Assembly, Mr. Gerry Finn welcomed the signing of a Collaborative Research and Innovation Strategy by the heads of the third-level institutions in the Border, Midland and Western (BMW) Region on June 17th. BMW Regional Programme invests €63m in the Region

Description:The progress in the implementation of the EU co-financed BMW Regional Operational Programme 2007-13 was reviewed at the third meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the Programme which took place in the BMW Regional Assembly Offices in Ballaghaderreen on May 19th. Mr. Gerry Finn Director of the BMW Regional Assembly informed the Monitoring Committee that implementation had commenced on 13 measures under the new programme by the end of 2008 and that total expenditure of €63m had been reported by the Implementing Departments and Agencies.

 

BMW Regional Operational Programme invests in the Midlands Region

Description: Mr. Gerry Finn, Director of the Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly welcomed the announcement of the new National Broadband Scheme by Minister for Communications, Eamon Ryan, TD, in Dublin today.
