The event was held as part of the support offered by both organisations for applicants to the current call to the INTERREG IVC programme. The Atlantic Area is an Operational Programme financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It aims to achieve significant and tangible progress in transnational cooperation geared towards cohesive, sustainable and balanced territorial development of the Atlantic Area and its maritime heritage.

First level Control Financial Management Briefing
In conjunction with the Special EU Programmes Body, the BMW Regional assembly hosted a one day All Island Financial Management Briefing on First Level Control for beneficiaries of assistance under the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme 2007-2013. The Briefing seminar took place on January 18th 2010 at the EU Commission Offices in Dublin. The event was chaired by Mr. Gerry Finn, Director of the BMW Regional Assembly and opened with overview presentations from Michael O’ Brien, BMW Regional Assembly and Teresa Lennon, SEUPB on Irish and Northern Irish Participation in the Programme. First Level Controllers, Joe Flynn and Helen Clarke then gave detailed presentations on the respective First Level Control procedures and eligibility criteria as they apply in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The event which was attended by 40 delegates was addressed also by Jean Luc Fres, Director of the Atlantic Area. Mr Fres delivered a detailed presentation on the collaborative on line Programme Platform which facilitates the expenditure claims submission process. He also described in detail the completion of the Execution Report. A questions and answers session followed which allowed participants the opportunity to raise specific issues of interest.
