During the first phase of implementation, detailed design work was progressed on the scheme having regard to a decision by An Bord Pleanála on the treatment of junctions, to bring the scheme to Contract Document Stage. Following a public procurement pre-qualification process that commenced in 2009, a Contractor was appointed and commenced work on-site in September 2010.
Works have progressed since then with significant earthworks, drainage, water main works, electrical and telecom utilities undertaken and also a section of retaining wall. Traffic management and public information have also been significant elements of the roll-out of the scheme.
The Contractors programme envisages completion of the works by the end of 2011.
