The procurement process for Construction Contractors commenced on November 27th 2009 using the Restricted Procedure with advertisements in the OJ and the E-Tenders website and 61 no. submissions were received in January 2010 which were evaluated in February 2010. During the site investigation and archaeological assessment works, part of an old wall was discovered under the existing building and this required a redesign of the support structures necessary to underpin the foundations of the building and to maintain the integrity of the wall. The invitation to tender was accordingly delayed and finally issued in August 2010.
Following the closing date for receipt of tenders they were assessed and a Letter of Intent to accept a tender was issued on November 18th 2010. The contract for the Athlone Art Gallery was awarded to Purcell Construction Ltd., Galway and they took possession of the site in March 2011. The contract will be completed in December 2011.
