Freedom of Information - Fees

The following fees have been prescribed by the Minister for Finance:

(a) €20.95 per hour for the efficient search and retrieval of records
(b) 4c per sheet in relation to a photocopy
(c) 51c for 3½'' computer diskette
(d) €10.16 for a CD ROM (Compact Disk - Read Only Memory)

The following charges have been determined by the Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly:

1. Personal Information Requests

(a) Shall be charged at the rate of €20.95 per hour, or part thereof, for requests requiring dedication of a search and retrieval time equal to or greater than one hour. (b) Charges shall be waived in circumstances when the request requires the dedication of a search and retrieval time of less than one hour. (c) No photocopying fee shall arise in hardship cases.

2. Non-Personal Information Requests

These shall be charged for at the rate of €20.95 per hour or part thereof, for all such requests requiring the dedication of a search and retrieval time of 15 minutes or more.

3. Photocopying

All photocopy sheets required in compliance with a request shall be charged at the rate of 4c per sheet where the amount produced exceeds 35 sheets.

No charges will be made in respect of photocopying and retrieval where the total charge involved would be less than €6.35. No charges may apply in respect of time spent by the Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly in considering your request.

A deposit may be payable where the total fee is likely to exceed €50.79. In these circumstances, you may request assistance from our Staff to amend your request so as to reduce or eliminate the amount of the deposit.

Waiver of Fees

Fees may be waived in the following circumstances:

  • Where the cost of collecting and accounting for the fee would exceed the amount payable.

  • Where the information would be of particular assistance to the understanding of an issue of National importance.
